BCFED FALL TRAINING REMINDER 2020
 

Now is a great time to consider your occupational health and safety training needs. The BCFED Health & Safety Centre has resumed public in-person classroom training and our fall course schedule has been updated with a priority on essential skills to deal with COVID-19.

As a result of risk assessments done for in-class activities, we have taken extensive safety measures to protect our participants and staff:

·Reduced the maximum size of each public course

·Restructured group learning activities to allow physical distancing

·Eliminated the need for the use of shared class materials

·Introduced checks for pre-entry wellness confirmation from all participants

·Ensured host facilities have appropriate no/low touch protocols in place (entrance/exits, washrooms)

·Supplied readily available hand sanitizer and other hygiene precautions

Please note we are also working on offering remote learning options for a number of our workshops in the future.  Topics and schedule will be available in early September.

Each member of a joint committee is entitled to an annual educational leave totalling 8 hours MORE INFORMATION

3.27 Minimum training requirements for new joint committee members:

(2) The employer must ensure that each member of the employer’s joint committees who was selected on or after June 1, 2017 to be a member receives, as soon as practicable but no more than 6 months after becoming a member, a total of at least 8 hours of instruction and training, as set out in subsection (4).

(10) For greater certainty, the instruction and training required under subsection (2) or (3) of this regulation is not educational leave as set out in section 135 of the Workers Compensation Act.

Note: The new 8-hour mandatory training requirement -- “new joint committee members must receive the instruction and training required under section 3.27 of the Occupational Health & Safety Regulation (OHSR)” -- is separate from the existing annual 8-hour educational leave assigned by section 135 of the Workers Compensation Act, “Each member of a joint committee is entitled to an annual educational leave totaling 8 hours [...]”.

* New committee members are eligible to receive 16 hours of education in their first year.*
